E3 is in the house
As a long time avid gamer I'm always excited when E3 comes around. It's excited because all the game companies reveal what's behind the curtain on many upcoming games and projects.
Of note is the interesting battle between Sony and Nintendo for the next generation of portable gaming. Sony's PSP is to go head to head with Nintendo's new gameboy DS. In my opinion, Sony has a large uphill battle in front of it. There system looks great, they have lots of good games coming out, but there is one major flaw. What is it going to cost.
Nintendo has kept the price down on their gameboy systems since their release. That has helped them to defeat competitor after competitor. If Sony can't release there new system for less that $149 I don't see how it will be able to compete. Why buy a whole new system that costs (rumored to be $300) requiring a whole new library of games when you can get Nintendo's cheap system for much less and use all your old games with it.
Only time will tell if people are willing to jump ship with that price but perhaps they can at least create a niche with gamers who don't usually go portable.
Until next time...
